  • The journey begins at the Cañadón Caracoles Portal, where we explore the history of the canyon’s formations and the importance of springs and wetlands along the way. With local guides, we hike about 14 kilometers to the La Confluencia campground, where we break for lunch.
  • We continue with a gentle 5-km stretch along the Bajada de Los Toldos trail to reach the La Señalada campground, where a delicious dinner around the fire awaits us.
  • The experience concludes with sunrise at La Señalada, featuring a sweeping panoramic view and a hearty breakfast to fuel the next day’s adventure.

  • Duration: 1 day + 1 night
  • Intensity: low / medium
  • Includes: transport to Caracoles Canyon, professional local guides, meals (snacks, afternoon tea, fire-cooked dinner at La Señalada, breakfast), overnight stay (tent, cot, sleeping pad and sleeping bag)

Cueva de las Manos and Cañadón Caracoles

Discover Cueva de las Manos and walk the same trails once followed by our nomadic ancestors thousands of years ago. Then, step into the otherworldly landscapes of Caracoles Canyon.

  • We cross the Pinturas Canyon on foot to immerse ourselves in its scenery and appreciate its depth.
  • After visiting the ancient rock paintings at the Cueva de las Manos archaeological site, we continue to the El Cóndor viewpoint, where we enjoy a picnic lunch sheltered from the wind with sweeping views of the Pinturas Canyon.
  • On the return journey, we stop at the new Cañadón Caracoles Portal, set within a massive geological fissure where you can hike and explore climbing areas.

  • 8 am – 7 pm
  • Includes: transport in a sprinter van, entrance ticket to Cueva de las Manos Provincial Park, local guides, lunch (box lunch) and recreational activities at the Cañadón Caracoles campground.

Experience Rewilding

Go behind-the-scenes on rewilding. In this experience, you will visit the El Unco biological station and meet the conservation team dedicated to restoring native habitats and wildlife on the Patagonian steppe, and head out in search of wildlife with the help of a guide.

  • We travel along Route 40 to the El Unco biological station, where the Rewilding Argentina Foundation team shares their day-to-day work to restore habitats, rebuild native wildlife populations, and reintroduce species that have disappeared from the region.
  • The experience continues with a guided visit to the wildlife reintroduction enclosures, a picnic in the stunning Caracoles Canyon, and an exciting wildlife-tracking outing using radio telemetry alongside a specialized guide.
  • 8 am – 7 pm
  • Includes: transport in a sprinter van, entrance ticket to Cueva de las Manos Provincial Park, local guides, lunch (box lunch) and recreational activities at the Cañadón Caracoles campground.

Tierra de Colores, Planetarium and Trekking on the Scenic Circuit

Discover rock formations and colors that seem lifted from another world. Learn about Patagonia’s human history and explore the night sky at the Interpretation Center and Planetarium. Finally, experience the remarkable diversity of landscapes, flora, and fauna along the Scenic Circuit.
  • We begin at Tierra de Colores, following a short, accessible trail through landscapes marked by vivid shapes and colors.
  • At the Interpretation Center and Planetarium, interactive exhibits introduce us to human evolution, the biodiversity crisis, and rewilding. We also learn about the wonders of the Patagonian night sky and visit the artisan shop.
  • We then walk to the La Señalada campground cantina for a picnic lunch sheltered from the wind, with views of the ever-present Cerro Chato.
  • From here, we set out on the Scenic Circuit, an exceptional medium-difficulty route that links the Cañadón Pinturas, Los Balcones, and La Vertiente trails before returning to the La Señalada campground cantina.

  • 8:30 am – 6 pm
  • Includes: transport in a sprinter van, hiking guide, box lunch, and full experience at Interpretation Center and Planetarium.

Alero Charcamata: A Journey into the Past

Travel back in time through the ancient rock art of Alero Charcamata, an important archaeological site located on a private ranch.

  • The experience begins with a 4×4 drive across the ranch’s dramatic landscapes. We ford the Pinturas River before reaching the parking area, where the journey continues on foot.
  • A one-hour, low-difficulty trek through the Charcamata Canyon brings us into the past, with the first paintings and traces of ancient fire pits appearing along the way. At the Alero Charcamata site, we observe the rock art up close and enjoy an interpretive talk on its main motifs, led by a local guide.
  • We then have lunch sheltered beneath the impressive rock overhang before returning to the vehicle and heading back to the La Posta de Los Toldos lodge.
